Journey to the Podium 2012

Journey to the Podium was a London 2012 inspired project involving artists and the county’s most promising athletes, funded by the Team Essex Ambassadors’ Award scheme.

Since 2009, artists were commissioned by Essex County Council to follow an Essex athlete’s mission to excel in their sport and compete at the London 2012 Games. During the process, the artists worked in their own medium to document and record the athlete’s experiences.

The collaborations have resulted in a collection of work that marks each athlete’s personal journey, capturing the essence of their personalities and sports.

The collection of art works were exhibited in several locations including; the Houses of Parliament, the Beecroft Gallery and Hadleigh Old Fire Station artist’s studios.

Ping Pong 2009

The exhibition Ping Pong brought together three artists, Toni McGreachan from the UK, Tanja Isbarn from Germany and Wia Stegeman from Holland who share the theme of water in their work. It continues the process of international exchange with like minded artists which begun when Toni was invited to show her work in Holland in 2006. The exhibition was funded by the Arts council of England and took place in February and March 2009.

Although the exhibition had its starting point in the theme of water the works made new unexpected links with one another, themes which the artists had been working on separately including fragmentation and repetition. The exhibition had over 400 visitors, thank you to all those people that supported us – if you missed it check out the photos and catch the next one!

We also had visits from local school Tidemill Primary and delivered a project with Boutchers CE Primary school, examples of the work can be seen under residencies.
